Newtown Linford CC v Rothley Park CC
Leicestershire County Cricket League Division 1
Main Street, Newtown Linford, Leicestershire
Newtown Linford Cricket Club is located on Main Street at the junction with Groby Lane in the middle of the village. I suppose it could be stereotyped as a typical English village cricket ground with various quirks giving it a uniqueness. These being very little space around part of the boundary, a pronounced slope and cars driving on the outfield to park up. The village itself gets very busy with it being the main entrance for Bradgate Park, which for anyone unaware is a Medieval Deer Park covering an area of 850 acres or 3 square kilometres.
The game saw Rothley restrict their hosts to 175-6 off their allocated forty five overs, with left hander Darren Bulpitt scoring an impressive 69 not out. This was a target that I felt Rothley should reach with relative ease, and this proved to be the case as they needed just thirty seven overs to do so. BBC Radio Leicester presenter Charles Dagnall top scored for the visitors with forty nine.
